We spent memorial day weekend at POC. It was cool and windy. We fished the jetty saturday morning. Our grapple anchor just couldn't get a grip. We drifted the rocks and managed a mix of drum, pompano, and sheephead on tiny live shrimp. After lunch, one of my quests wanted to fish Saluria for gaftop to take home. Of course, with the bays muddy the gaftop were on and he was able to fill a cooler in short order.

Sunday, I wanted to try something different. The jetty was a little rough. We searched for a clean bay and found decent water in greens bayou. Wadefishing was good with a mixed bag of reds and black drum. Puppy drum were thick. We found a lot of just undersized trout over mud bottom. Tough wading but they were eager to hit a spook jr.

So, we had to work for it but ended up with a pretty good meat haul.

Wow. That is windy! The jetty is something though isn't it?

Yea, all prongs of grapple anchor would just straighten out. We did manage to hook outside the lee jetty in about 18' of water. Still bumpy enough that one of my guests was a bit quesy. Suprisingly the water was a nice green. I cant wait for these winds to slack off.

Josh Ray: We fish POC about 5 times per year. Check out Saluria Bayou, Big Bayou - mail boat channel, The Old Coast Guard station, Mitchell's Cut. Get a map and it's a big help. Take the channel that is across from The Fishing Center and stay between the markers in the channel. Otherwise you will find yourself in shallow water. If you have a depth finder, it will help you. Good luck!! Headed down the end of June to put the grandkiddos on some tight lines.
