so met a fellow tffer out today. Nice to have someone to meet up with since I'm usually solo. Got into a nice surface school of whites and hybrids early morning. 1st time I have ever been in a school like that in a kayak. Been in boats but much more fun in kayak so close to the surface. I saw the largest baitball I have ever seen on my depthfinder really cool to see my first large school of fish on the lowrance (very happy with that purchase!) The hybrids would not quit biting today but mostly skinny and small. Ended up taking the nicest one home for some fish tacos tonight. did well on the hybrids...one small largemouth and a 4 pound drum on a crankbait. In the past three weeks I have caught 2 channels and drum on crankbaits. almost like lately I have some kind of largemouth curse using crankbaits. The drum was really fun to bring in though. Overall this was definitely my best number day in the kayak. I was very glad to be getting off that lake by noon though! All the crazies were coming in just as I was leaving and all the game wardens. My cousin got a ticket for no life jacket on a paddleboard at gvine yesterday so watch out they are on the prowl! Just thought I would post since have not posted results in a while.

Enjoy your memorial day thumb

Your small hybrids were probably large sandies. TPW has never stocked Ray Roberts with Hybrids, and they don't reproduce naturally.

Same here man! It was a pleasure to meet you. I may have steered you wrong on the Hybrids. Their lines were really distinct. Back home (bama) the white bass seem to have much more faint lines. I don't know if it's a different strain or what, but we seldom catch them. Many more stripes and hybrids in the waters I'm use to fishing. I also couldn't get away from them. Caught 3 small largemouth. Can't count the number of sandies. OH AND SNAKES EVERYWHERE. Found some nice grass topped out that I though I might be able to drag one out of. However, I kept getting run off by "no shoulders." I don't do snakes. Very pretty and clean lake. I was impressed.

Where did you guys launch and fish at? I put in at Buck last week and went towards the back. Didn't see any grass.

state park by dam. Didn't catch much by dam, but man it was beautiful by red rock area...and some nice drop offs. I was wondering about the hybrids. I look for the broken lateral lines and they did have that...but the hybrids I have caught were always much more fat and stout. Anyway I enjoyed it. I got a reading of 80 ft at one point. not sure if that was right though....depth finder may have been running out of juice at that point. I was pretty impressed also...lots of variety as far as fishing options. I also saw a bank fisherman haul in a 10 pound blue..... he was one happy camper.

How was the wind? I've been thinking about hitting the dam first thing in the morning one weekend, but I'd hate to be out there in big wind.

that was my only issue. it was fine all morning but got up pretty good about noon. Never checked to see exact speed. I guess because the lake is so deep lots of rolling waves....that combined with the crazy boaters I got sandwiched in between southbound and east moving waves. I just gave up and let the waves push me in. I felt like if I resisted I would have been over. I am still fairly new to wave positioning but my only issue lately is strong wind pushing me into shore then having to zig zag along the shoreline so I am hitting waves head on. The coves are fine though plenty of places to get out and ride the wind out I guess.

I hear ya on the waves out there. Crossing the mouths of some of the coves, you run into some big ones. I'm getting better at navigating them though.

Stay safe. Tight lines.
