My unit only has 200/83 khz Your unit has 83/200 kHz for 2D sonar and 455 kHz for Imaging or for use with a Quad Beam transducer.

Just curios is there a time where 800 kh is better than 455 kh or do y'all stick with 455 all the time? my understanding is the higher the khz the better the detail. But if it is a dirty lake, the particles will skew/obscure the detail. So u back it off to 455khz. If that's wrong, someone please correct me.

I'm learning as watch more videos, the higher the khz the narrower the cone angle I think.

Just curios is there a time where 800 kh is better than 455 kh or do y'all stick with 455 all the time? 800 kh is better for detail IF THE CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT. 455 is good all around. I use the 800kh if I'm in water that is less than 20', I'm idling 1-3mph with chart speed set at 1 or 2, and the range to the side is 70' or less. It takes a little getting used to, but you get more details. Also, for some reason, some lakes the 800kh simply doesn't work. I'm not sure what limnological characteristics dictate this. Perhaps water hardness or even conductivity? The distance makes since, since higher kh frequencies will attenuate faster (shorter distances) than lower frequencies . However, with higher frequency you will retrieve greater detail from closer ranges. Either way, 800 still took me quite a while to understand what I'm seeing. If conditions are right and you are looking for something (like a brushpile), then I think it can help. As a note, I leave mine set at 455 kh and switch when I need too.
