I always catch and release but I've seen several guys cleaning bass. Some people are against it to the max. I think if is of legal size, several per season shouldn't hurt. What do you guys think? Any good tasting bass in the dfw besides a fish market?

LMB is good. Smallmouth is better.

I don't have the heart to filet a big fish.
16 - 18 inches is about ideal.

Article in Bass Times 5 or 6 years ago by TPWD biologist said extreme change to catch & release had hurt the fishery more than help. Said we need to thin the population some. Point was let the biologist set size and number limits to best manage the population.
Smaller legal bass filets are good keep and eat some. We do and like them. Key is keep them alive until you fillet them. The bone and skin and not being fresh gives you fishy smelling fish.

Key is keep them alive until you fillet them. The bone and skin and not being fresh gives you fishy smelling fish. That is very true. Back home they are alive from the pond when we clean. Have done a couple of times on the boat (less then 16") and just iced and cleaned at home. They didn't taste as good so I am thinking that is the problem.

Wow, this has never been discussed here. Ibtl Ohh its been discussed. Someone will overdue their strong feelings on not eating them then the threads wheels fall off.I will go ahead and IBTL because sooner or later it will.To the OP if you catch them legally and want to eat them then start the grease.

Not as good as crappie..... Or catfish Or sandbass Or striper Or hybrid
I prefer to eat better foods, but to each his own. The others are easier to catch large numbers also.

Keeping them alive until you clean them is now an issue as TP&W want us to drain our live wells at the lake.... I agree with the Old Fisherman... the fish taste much better when cleaned alive... But, like with most everything else, the government wants to tell us how to do things....

They're good eaten. But I prefer hybrids and crappies. It's all preference.

We fried and ate bass from our pond this weekend. Best fish I've ever eaten. People that say catfish is better probably haven't eaten bass.

When I fish Fork I keep all my under's (under 16"). Game Wardens approve and so do my buddies that live on Fork. My family loves to eat fish - crappie being their favorite fresh water fish. I clean the under's - bag them up with some water in the freezer bag and freeze them immediately. They are really good eating. The Game Wardens say that it helps Lake Fork.
