Read a great article last year about one of the best ice fishermen up north... jigging cadence was everything. Such subtle change can mean the difference in slaying them and nothing. Can you imagine sitting around a hole in the ice all day? Lots of time to figure things out.

Speaking of ice holes did you hear about the bear hunter that dug a big hole in the ice, sprinkled peas around it and when the bear bent over to take a pea, the hunter kicked the bear in the ice hole. rolfmao I love that one.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Realize your fishing style. I love to jig under a float. I can usually adapt it to most fishing conditions. But sometimes, no matter how hard I try, it just may not be what the fish want. Which leads me to another tip. Learn multiple styles of fishing. It's funny though because I find myself jigging a crankbait, same with a spinnerbait, chatterbait, texas rig... Heck I even jigged an umbrella bait the other day. But I usually catch myself doing it and try to correct it. And remember when you do catch a fish try to recognize a possible pattern. Depth, color, speed of the lure, etc. It can get exciting reeling in that monster, adrenalin pumping. (I think we all have a little adrenalin junky in us) It can be enough sometimes to make one lose focus. Then that next cast you're swimming your plastic carolina rig like a buzzbait.

Ah heck just use minnows...

The longer your bait is in the water the better your chances of catching fish.

I have two.

Find the bait, because the fish will...

and my personal favorite kayak fishing tip that came out of the infamous bass forum yakker thread:

i agree with the you dont need 1/2 of what we take theory.

i have shelves of fishing gear in the garage but use the same stuff. match the bait in the area and youll catch fish.

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. - Henry David Thoreau

When I read this quote I think to stop and breath in the world around me, relax and you fish better.

If you think you are going slow, slow down some more. I don't remember where I heard it but it works especially in pressured waters.
