A buddy and I are planning to go camping, and yak fishingn for cats on Lake Tawakoni the weekend on June 6&7... Neither of us have ever been. Any pointers on here to fish and stay? We'd be tent camping... Thanks in a advance!

I camp and fish out of the state park. if you go out of the boat ramp and head north to the trees there is some decent catfish there.

The best kayak fishing you can really do it either fish the humps in front of Holiday Marina for whites/hybrids or try to hit the dam for whites/hybrids/crappie. Paid camping is the best at the state park, but it limits your fishing because the better fishing grounds are at the other end. I've seen people set up camp at the last ramp near the damn and just wade fish from there. Maybe you guys can try that. I want to try that the next time the wind lets me. Oh, yea please watch for the wind. Anything over 10mph I don't recommend trying to get a kayak on the main lake.

Sounds like Tawakoni might not be the best idea with a kayak! Best fishing state park within 2 hours of Tyler? Yak fishing preferred: we are somewhat new to the sport

Look at Purtis Creek State Park. Some great bass fishing there and its a no wake lake. Its perfect for kayaking.

Man, the area you live in is right in the middle of some great Lakes to yak. Lake of the Pines immediately. Murval, Sam Rayburn. ... Get a Texas map out and you will be surprised.

We fished there last month and got into a bunch of Sandies. Camped in the State Park.
