No way I would leave a marker and expect it to be there when I got back. I don't know anyone that purposely leaves a marker and comes back. Way more common to paint them black so they can't be seen by the bent pole crowd.

Well fish spanker, I guess I won't be doing it any more. Never have had anything at a lake taken, out of truck, boat, off the water, but after reading these posts, I guess we live in a differant world! Ive been marking that sight for years and the only thing Ive heard is Wow, there is a road there? thanks Man! I dont mark the bridge poles/pylons, because it is in traffic. I guess I need a better GPS unit.

#1 Not open water, If your running where the markers are well, they make all kinds of stupid! #2 The practice of marking and coming back is a long standing practice. First time I saw it was on outdoor trails many many many moons ago, and still see guys doing all the time! Find the top ( 2 feet under) mark it let it settle and come back in 30-40min. Many people have been glad to use my markers to fish that road and hump. Most dont know its there! I share water freely, It aint mine! I'll post pics if I can of fish off that road. 1, can you see a 4 inch by 4 inch marker at 30+ mph? I can't see them when I drift off 30ft working my way down a road bed if there is even a little chop and at 15/20 vision, I see better than the majority of the population. 2, I've been fishing my entire life and I've yet to see that as a standing practice anywhere. When I leave, I remove my markers. As was stated before, if I hit a marker and wrapped it around my prop, I'd be 10 kinds of ticked off. Don't leave them, others probably see it as a hazard.

Not to be nasty Jeremy, if your running 30+ around boats fishing, in 1.5-2.5' of water, top of road, out of lane, or you crank up in everyones fishing area, not trolling until your clear, my marker is not the concern, the barbed wire that lays on top will be! I just fluffed it up off bottom for you earlier today when I snagged it!

It's no different than leaving rods in the bed of a truck unattended. Should someone take them? NO. Will someone take them? YES.

Leaving a marker out is not the same as leaving something in the back of your truck at the ramp/lot. To assume that a fisherman has forgotten to pick them up does not automatically render them fair game. If you are an honest person who fishes you know what belongs to you and what doesn't. As for those who would be irritated to get one wound up in there prop, I would be too. I never have though because I pay attention .

To throw out a marker and leave is wrong. To me you are littering and causing problems for other boater's props. It's like going to walmart and putting an orange traffic cone in a front parking spot so that you can come back later that day. Juglines are a different story because they are larger and must be properly marked by the owner. At least then, you can call the owner and gripe at them if it ruins your lower unit seals. I use markers also, but I never leave them so that others get the impression that I am "reserving" my spot. Sorry.

Chris, as soon as I figureout how to down size the picture files, I'll show you I am for real. I am hoping that the old man that had words with the young guy posts. That little lake is seeing a great deal of preasure do to the fact that it is almost full of water. it has been crazy, even in the middle of the week.

I just fluffed it up off bottom for you earlier today when I snagged it! Got it. You motored through and marked a road bed in the middle of a bunch of boats already fishing the area. Did you ask one of "all the other boats" you marked the road in the middle of if they saw anyone come in the middle of all them and take the markers? Sorry, didn't get to go fishing today so I'm bored! :-)
