I may be able to give my wife a break and take my kids fishing for a few hours this weekend. My son who is 4 1/2 does ok, but it will be the first time for my daughter who just turned 3. Any reports or recs on places were we may catch something, whatever it is?
Thanks a lot

As a dad myself, take them to the beach.
Y'all can still fish for whiting while also going for a swim.

Throw Fresh dead shrimp on a Carolina rig into the 2nd gut.

Remember, it's Memorial Day weekend, so the piers and beach will be packed.
If you go to Galveston and want to avoid the traffic and crowds, I suggest getting there very very early and driving south on Seawall Blvd until you get at least past 8 Mile Road.

The best place I've seen for kids has been Texas City. There are tones of croaker for them to play with. Take them to the beach side and they can play in the sand too. Most of the time the water is calmer than right Galveston beaches.

The State Park in Galveston also has the ammenities i.e. - bathrooms, showers, lalce to change clothes for a small fee. That's usually where we go. Just like stated above, we just fish the shallow surf on the bottom w/ shrimp for whiting, croaker, puppy drum, trout, or whatever else bites. They enjoy the heck out of it. Boogie boards and sand castles also pass the time. Bring some type of shade. Also no fishing license is needed.

Thanks for the responses guys. I had forgotten about Memorial Day weekend, and my middle one got sick, so we didn't go anywhere.

When you say TX city is there any specific beach?
We usually go to Surfside and fish from the shore, but the beach is more involved than a pier: ie. watching them in the surf, keeping them from drowning and try to get them into some fishing. I thought a pier might work better for an "exclusively fishing" trip for them.
I had my TX State Parks passport, which I need to renew, but we have been to Galveston SP in the past.

The Texas City Dike. If you drive down the dike a ways you'll see different types of fishing. There are a few little docks at the boat ramps and short piers. You 'll have the rocks to your right and then about 3 miles down you'll start seeing the beach to your left. Be aware that Mosquito Island is a good place to fish but dangerous for the inexperienced. (I wouldn't take kids there.) Also the beach side starts off shallow but can get deep in some spots. Most of the waves are caused by passing ships and the undertow can be a bit strong. There are shallow flats closer to the entrance down skyline drive as well. Wear shoes the oysters shells can cut your feet.

Change of plans again. We may be hitting Surfside for a day at the beach with wife and kids. So we'll see how that goes. Hopefully the seaweed is not too bad.
