My first question is, how windy is too windy for bank fishing? I know you're supposed to fish with the wind in your face, but for me the sweet spot if around 8-12mph, anything more than that and I get skunked.

I'd tend to agree with you. If the wind is blowing above a certain mph, it starts to get on my nerves, and I can't concentrate on fishing.

Wind only bothers me in very shallow water...I tend to tight line with heavier weight so the wind doesn't bother me too much, plus it keeps a lot of other anglers away

Tonyp, what size weight do you use? I've been using 5oz weight all the time now regardless of wind speed and it seems to be working. I'm also using live bait all the time now and I want to make sure 5oz is enough to hold the fish in place, thx.
Speaking of using live bait, wow... it's really fun. lol.. I've caught 2 flatties the past week or so, and get strikes often, usually every 15-20min. I'm sure it's sometimes gar, smaller fish, etc, but the action is pretty consistent. Just need to increase my hooks up more. I was hooking the fish through the eyes, but I'm also hooking them below the dorsal fin. But seems like the fish are coming off the hook more when I hook at the dorsal fin compared to going through the eye sockets. At least when I reel in to cast again, they're gone more often.

In the winter, there is no such thing as to much wind!

When you're bank fishing, no such thing as too much wind.
Heavier weight, live bait and #7 circle hooks. Make sure you snell your hook.
If you're looking for eaters, #4 treble hook, baited with some Stubby's Cheese Bait or some Sure Shot.

I use much lighter weight, 1 oz at the heaviest...I also let them run for awhile before I set the hook, but still miss a few here and there...

Gotta be tawakoni..lots of good bank spots
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

What kind of banking areas do you look for when targeting catfish?
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.
