Is there an easy way to determine if the alternator is putting out the correct voltage? I'm not sure if the smart gauges are reading the battery voltage or the alternator voltage. I would guess the battery voltage but not sure.

The smart gauge reads from 12.8 to 14 depending on the RPM's of the motor. My problem is that I'm running my starting battery down on occasions when I am run my livewells all day. The way the new boats are wired everything runs off of the cranking battery. Lights, depth finders, livewells, power poles, etc. and I have ran my cranking battery down on a couple of occasions. The battery is a new platium die hard so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

Not uncommon. Watch the voltage most fish finders will show it. You need to start your big motor and let run when cranking battery gets below 11.8 volts. Have a customer that runs all you have plus Sirius.
