I have been kayaking 100 times and just now thinking about purchasing one to start fishing out of. Yes, I know there is a topic with 14 or so pages on purchasing a kayak and what you want out of one. I'm just curious on everyone's opinion if this would be a good 1st fishing Kayak. It's a great deal that academy is offering, and almost to good to pass up. Don't really feel like spending 1k on my first one.

100 times out kayaking, I wouldn't consider you a newbie. You should have a pretty good feel for what you need.
Have you considered looking for a used kayak? Lot's of guys wanting to upgrade from 1 to 2 year old kayaks that have little wear and tear.
If you put a ceiling on the price at 1k there are a lot of good deals out there.
Answer to your question is yes the Pescador is a very good starter kayak!

The only reason I would consider myself a newbie is that every time I have gone kayaking(since I was 10 years old probably) I haven't even considered the specs on a kayak. Never paid much attention to the brand, or even to the length for that matter. Throw trying to fish out of one into the equation and it makes me probably try to over-think things. I would love to buy used. But most used kayak's that I'm finding are still right around 1k. I would like to keep it below 500, and have a decent rig.

It's hard, but be patient and really watch craigslist and every so often you will find a great deal on a better yak. But the deal academy has right now is a good one, I just wouldnt buy that one unless you planned on upgrading in the next year or so.

I would say that you have enough experience in them to know what will best suite you. I started out in high end kayak but that was my choice. I often kayak with folks that have kayaks from Academy or Dicks etc and they do just fine in them. By the way that green/black pescador 12 at Academy is pretty cool looking in my opinion. Good luck with the search.

A 12' Pescador is a good first yak for many. On sale at Academy for $399 makes it an even better first yak.

Kayaks tend to be like potatoe chips, you can't just have one! Congratulations and welcome to the addiction!
