Good posts and some good replies some not so good. I'm a little old school, I've had invites to move in and have had them point guns at me to move. Myself all I ask is you treat my dock like it was your own. I've collected up to twenty jigs shot and hung in my boat cover with line broke. I would much rather you come undo the jig than try to rip it free. When Guy and Ernest were daily visitors I would get a kick watching them catch crappie. But I can also understand why some get crabby, some of these jokers don't even speak when they come by and look all PO'd. I could rat out what kind of boats most of them are in, but that wouldn't be right

Sanchez, ur on the money. Good post. I have met both kinds too. I try and keep cool and move on with the bad, and I greet and meet the good. We all have our days , but most people that have a mean temper , always have a mean temper. Wish I had a dock, come by and hang out. I would most likely be out there enjoying it.

I like sitting up at the house or here at work and watch the dock camera. Funny what people do when they think no one is looking.

Thanks for the info, good to know.

There are public boat and fishing piers in the State of Texas in parks and adjacent to boat ramps.

You need a better anchor. Talk to Chuckp about a box anchor.

This doesn't excuse the unhospitable response of the dock owner, which was uncivil, but we all need to be responsible for our own actions.

I know people have the right to fish by our boathouse and bulk head but do you have to be a rude snob. Lol. When I come out to my My backyard with my dogs to do their business or just be outside, we get a go to hell look from most. Hey sorry my yorkie wants to come see ya. It's your right to fish, YES. It's our right to be in our yard and boathouse. Be nice. Happy Fishing.

I'm sure that I look like I'm "casing the joint". I can't help it. Yes, I'm fishing, but I also enjoy the sights. There's lots of pretty houses by the water. Yet, I've never had a bad experience with a dock owner.

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

If a guy with kids ask to tie off on my dock nicely I would let him do it with no hesitation. Maybe I am a softy but if you ask nice I would say tie up and have fun.

I wouldn't assume the "boys" are young. They might be teenagers. scout sounds responsible and respectful. I agree if they were young children though. Too bad the dock owner was such a jerk about it.

Remember also, should it ever come up in your fishing adventures, that when the law says your property ends at the waterline, it means the normal, FULL water line. Just because the lake or river is low, that doesn't mean that the property owner magically inherits an acre or two more land. On the flipside, if the river or lake is overflowed, the fisherman/boater is obliged to respect that persons property lines as best they can. just because its underwater teporarily doen't make it public domain.

Now, with that being said, it seems rudeness and arrogance is the order of the times nowadays. He was well within his rights to say no, but there's no reason to be a horses #$$ about it, especially in front of kids (of any age).

On a tourney day my dock may be fished by twenty or more boats (more if the wife is out there, go figure)...everyone is respectful.

Not all lake lots are leased property...I OWN my land (150 feet of waterfront) and my dock. I prefer that people don't tie up to it for many of the same reasons MO mentioned. It gets out of hand.

We had the most issues when the house next door was a rental. Got some real idiots in there with no concept of respect.

Had a guy a few years back, ties the bow of his 25 foot "dick" boat off to the rent house dock and then the stern to our dock with three ropes. My wife asked him to untie it as I was coming in for a break and his ropes were blocking access. He was good and drunk by this point and told her to "F@#$% O&&", His boat was staying there "What are you going to do about it?" He shouted, backed up by three of his buddies.

My wife...I do love her. She takes no guff, She went and got her Buck knife and cut his boat loose. She called me and let me know what was up. When I pulled in the guy was muttering under his breath, but his boat was secured to the other side of the rental house dock.

On the flip side, I have several dock owners around the lake that I have asked if I can pull in their docks in bad weather. To a person all said no problem...
