Yes they are private property, and the allowable length depends on the controlling authority on that particular lake

Bingo, they also control how many slips and width. Its all by the amount of waterfront you have.

I am a boat dock owner and given the circumstances I think this owner made a poor choice. However, with that said I have to respect his right to make that poor choice, it is his dock. I like people to fish around my docks, it is kind of cool to have someone pull a nice fish off of it.

I was at our dock on twok one day and a guy asked to tie up as his trolling motor battery's were weak and our dock is positioned on a bend that he wanted to fish I let him tie up and threw him a extension cord a little bit of kindness goes a long way

As a fisherman I would never ask someone to tie up unless it was an emergency. you could easily damage the dock if the boat hit it, maybe minor, but you could cause damage. As a dock owner, I know that boats have hit my dock. Floating docks in high wind are already under stress, and a boat pulling on it adds unnecessarily. If the dock owner was rude that is wrong.

As a dock owner myself and a fishermen I can see bothsides. I was fishing a tourney this weekend in high winds and had a rude owner come down his dock. At first i thought he was just going to ask how the fishing was but instead he starting going on about how i better not let my boat touch his sh$%7. I told him he was just upset because he had a great looking place on the lake with a nice dock . To bad its outta the water half the time because its shallow were his place is.

on most lake in texas the boat dock is who ever is the owner of the property but you don't really own it you lease it. They can have you move your dock.

I owned a nice place on Lake Palestine and spent a ton of money on a nice dock with a boat house, lift etc. and you would be surprized at how people had no problems sitting on my dock with lawn chairs, sunbathing, running and diving off the end of my dock, smearing mud all over the dock in a mud ball fight tying up to park after putting in at the HOA ramp which was on the next piece of property. working on their boats and motors , etc.etc.

On the other hand if I saw someone fishing and they wanted to tie off to let some kids fish I would have been fine with that if they asked and I didn't think they were going to mess with my personal property.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

Don't lump all dock owners in one boat, we are all different
and we are not all jerks.

I would have invited you to tie up and helped anyway I could.

Tom's exactly right. Would be the first to help a boater out in need but not to tie up to fish from our dock. Really don't want to invite potential trouble by allowing people we dont know access to our property. Many of us have had our boathouses broken into and property damaged and stolen. If its too windy for the anchor or troll motor, upgrade the equipment and hit the lake prepared.

I would live on a fishing lake, but only if I could have my own launch ramp (and without a dock). I would put a gate on it so nobody could use it. I just don't want to give anyone a reason to serve me papers (lawsuit).

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

Everyone post up your brush pile cordinates, its basically the same thing. That guy may have his dock brushed out, and being you can fish it, he might not want to make it so easy you pull every fish he has off it.
