I really hate Rudy's. They dont trim their fat before they slice it up. Every time I bite into it I just get a lot of burnt fat and its just real chewy. Its not bad but Ive had LOTS better. Their sides are good tho

That bbq joint there in fairfield (i forget the name) is some of the worst I've ever tried. And I was so hungry I could have eaten shoe leather at the time.

Rudy's here is Spring (just south of The WOodlands) is really good.

The brisket, turkey, and chicken is great

The ribs are awful - then again I have not found ANY ribs in the Houston area that are good

Hardin's Barbeque in Eastland, TX, is where you want to go. You won't find any fat on their brisket.

Actually, while stuck living in Ohio, I found worse BBQ than anything made here in Texas. Smokey Bones tasted basically like roasted dogmeat. It's owned by the same group as Red Lobster, so you know they cater to the lowest common denominator. There was a local joint called "Cowboy's" in Bainbridge Township (near Cleveland). My first clue s/h/b the Ohio State banner displayed next to our (Texas) flag. I ordered their "Texas Brisquet" which they proudly proclaimed was smoked for 14 hours. It tasted like someone boiled an old Tony Lama boot, doused it with fake smoke and smothered it with bbq sauce. I firmly believe that the worst bbq in Texas is still better than anything anywhere else. At least if it sucks, you can go out back, barf, and go down the road and find something decent! Plus, you're in Texas!!!
