It doesnt take that long to retie but the time i see the speed clips most useful for me is on windy days when by the time I get off the seat to my storage compartment get the box out and bait out of the box, get my snips cut the line retie the line its a royal pain to stay in one spot when I can just get the clip unclip it and clip it on the new lure and be done.

I use speed clips or small ball bearing high quality swivels. No split ring.

Speedclips are okay if you've got good dexterity in your hands, which I have lost. I bought a batch last year and replaced the splitrings with them on some traps and they seem to work just fine...re-tying is quicker for me than trying to fumble with the clips though.

BPS clips are fast and as far as I can tell the action is the same. In cold water I go without the clip to get a tighter wiggle.

I dont know if they do but I always thought they would affect the depth that the bait runs. More drag, less depth.I tie loop knots for my crank baits and top water baits.

How many times have you run your fingers up and down your line in front of your bait checking the need to retie? We are all guilty of this. What a lot of anglers don't realize is there can be microscopic abrasions and weak/stress spots that you can not feel. You only have control over so many things through the course of the fishing day and your line is one of them. SPEED CLIPS TEND TO MAKE PEOPLE LAZY and they don't retie enough! I am not faulting anyone. I used to use them myself until I had several of them open up losing the fish and the bait. Just as easy as they are to clip onto a line tie, the right angle and just a little bit of torque can open them up enabling them to slide off. It has only happened on topwater plugs (Spook, Chugbug, Lucky Craft G-Splash) with fixed eyes, but the fact that it has happened once is enough for me to not ever use them again. Again, you only have control of so many variables throughout the day. Why take a chance? When I do use a snap of any type, it is a rounded locking style. I use them on Spooks and certain swimbaits. The best ones I have found come from Japan and are made by a company called Decoy. They aren't cheap, but why skimp on quality when it might make the difference in winning or losing whether it be in a tournament or the battle with a fish of a lifetime. Besides, If I'm going to throw a high dollar swimbait why trust a cheapazz snap or quick clip. http://www.performancetackle.com/freshwater-fishing/terminal-tackle/egg-snap/prodeggSnap.htmlThe same goes for snap swivels. Doesn't your brother-in-law or neighbor that fishes twice a year look funny with that big ol snap swivel in front of his little crankbait or spinnerbait? There is a time and a place for them as well and the best example I can think of is on a big spoon. But again, invest in quality terminal tackle. If you are still getting line twist, then you have a cheapazz swivel in front of the snap!
