For pistol calibers and subsonic rifles such as the .3 00bo I agree. For standard loads in rifles such as 5.56 or 7.62 its not necessary. The carbon gets burned off in those.

Go with a trust if you have a family. I have about 12 suppressors or so and probably 4-5 SBR's. The wait time is shorter for individual, but the versatility of the trust is worth the extra wait in my situation.

leethefishking is spot on. I have a Gemtech for my 22's and it gets filthy from an afternoon of shooting. We all know 22's are dirty and they will gunk up a suppressor in no time. I can take the Gemtech apart, clean it and it's good as new and ready for another fun afternoon. I'm getting another Gemtech and it will also be user serviceable as well.

All my suppressors are individual bought. Never looked into a trust. But if the statement that they can be transferred into a trust is true I may look into it as part of estate planning.

Unless the ATF recently changed the regs to transfer them to a trust will require another $200 tax stamp for each one.

I know NOTHING about them. What is the difference between a $500 and a $1200 one?

That would be like comparing a Trika rod to a NRX+

they both can catch a fish

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

You are sure to hear various opinions on this, but IMO the biggest factor is the weight. Every ounce you put on the end of your rifle has a huge impact on the usability of the gun in the field.

As a general rule, the path to lower weights is through higher grade materials, and higher grade materials are expensive to work with, which generally translates to better quality controls.

Obviously there are exceptions, but that is an easy rule of thumb.

Weight is a factor but unless you plan to stand and shoot all the time it can be mitigated by adding a bipod or tripod.

Another advantage of the lighter suppressors I didn't see mentioned is applicable to precision rifles; the effect it has on barrel harmonics. A heavier unit will likely have a greater influence on accuracy and on POI.

Lots of things. Materials like titanium and various coatings usually being pricier. There are different designs and manufacturing processes as well. I have a titanium suppressor that was made through 3d printing that can be used with a solid end cap for maximum suppression or a ported end cap to flow through and reduce back pressure on an AR type rifle. It was expensive but it is versatile. I have others that were welded and made in more of the conventional manner. I like titanium for its light weight for hunting purposes but if you mag dump all day or have a machine gun you will want iconel or some other durable material. There are so many choices out there now and so many ways to mount them it gets a bit overwhelming. My advice if you are looking for a first one for rifle shooting is to just get a quality direct thread .30 cal suppressor like an Omega 300. You can shoot your .223 up to 300 mag through it with no problem and enter the world of shooting like a civilized person should.

Yes, seems some of the carbon wrapped barrels for hunting fall into that category as well.

this will be my next if I do get another, changeable end caps for direct thread to 7.62 or 5.56/22, user serviceable, made in weatherford Tx.
they have a less expensive model but this one is worth the money imo.
