I read this article and wondered if it could possibly be true. Has anyone had recent experience buying a suppressor and experiencing shorter waiting periods?

“ Beyond the annoying fact that we even have to get permission to possess a suppressor, the ridiculous wait time for said approval has turned many people away from buying one. If we are to believe what has been said by the ATF, most suppressor approval times will dramatically decrease now and in the future. What was a nine-month wait just a year ago may now be shortened to a few months, weeks, or even days.”

Wait times have dropped drastically. Some people have seen approvals back in less than a week.

Just did 2 sbrs, submitted 2 weeks ago and approved last tue. Have a suppressor in the works now, submitted yesterday.

Go to silencershop.com under support they have wait times, individual was 4 day avg this morning. If you file it under a trust it takes longer.

What is the difference in trust vs individual? I've never done mine individual, but 130 days vs 4 days is a shocking difference.

I know NOTHING about them. What is the difference between a $500 and a $1200 one?

That would be like comparing a Trika rod to a NRX+

You are sure to hear various opinions on this, but IMO the biggest factor is the weight. Every ounce you put on the end of your rifle has a huge impact on the usability of the gun in the field.

As a general rule, the path to lower weights is through higher grade materials, and higher grade materials are expensive to work with, which generally translates to better quality controls.

Obviously there are exceptions, but that is an easy rule of thumb.

Sorry, guess I'm having a bad day with the Spectrum deal and all. Not sure comparing a fishing rod to a silencer is working in my brain. But are the more expensive one's quieter, lighter, more rounds can go thru them(is this even a thing) what exactly?

Ok, I can wrap my brain around this, thanks. I would think for most AR owners like myself (don't fire them regularly) the heavier, cheaper ones work as well.

trust you can put others in and they can use the suppressor, they must carry the paperwork like you do.

individual, only you are "allowed" to use it, unless you are in the presence of the person using like at the range, blind etc.

I screwed up with this one, still new to how this works, should not have done the trust and just filed it as individual (they may change it since my others are all individual, but doubt it).

you can buy individual and later transfer to a trust as I understand it.

Had two suppressors and an SBR get approved in three days from the time the dealer submitted the forms electronically. This was in February.

I would highly recommend user serviceable if you plan to use it much. That way you can take it apart and clean it.
