I agree that it should be against the law to take advantage of people in their time of grief. It already is against the law to gouge people after a hurricane so why not make a law for this. It’s long overdue.

We also had a service at the top of the hill across from where they lived (4WD trail to the top) and spread their ashes. Only way the funeral home got us was $1500 for crematory services. That sucked for what they did but whatcha gonna do?

But I agree they prey on folks when they're vulnerable. Been through it with several family members.

My dad passed away at 90 back in April. We used a funeral home in Arlington for the memorial service. He was buried at the National cemetery in Dallas. We were happy with the funeral home we used. When mom passed she is going to be buried with him

My oldest daughter passed a few months ago and her mother (my ex) asked me to help with the expenses. Funeral home got me for over $5k for the cremation and simple viewing. Said by law we had to have a real casket for viewing because she had an autopsy.

My wife wants to go next month and pre-pay for ours. My grandparents paid for spots for them and their 4 kids but only them and my mom are in there now as all the other children are buried elsewhere. Funeral home told my sister when she was making final arrangements for our mom, that any of the family can use the other spots. I could be buried at the national cemetery, but wife wants to be with me.

Huh? Not unless they have changed the law or made a law with regards to that.

And I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Parents should never have to bury their child.

I mean, they can't reuse a casket, I don't believe, but when I was dealing with it, you did not have to have a casket for a viewing, or to be buried. Now, some cemeteries/funeral homes have their own rules, but not by law.

I had to call and have some very frank conversations with funeral homes the night my dad died. Sleaziest bunch of criminals I've ever dealt with. Sorry to hear about this mud

I just went through this with my wife. She was cremated and we will inter her ashes at a local cemetery that provides plots for cremains. Most of you funeral homes are owned by a corporation. Hre locally, Bluebonnet, Shannon, and others are all corporate owned and they are terrible. We went with Lucas who is still a family owned business. Can't say enough good things about them. No upselling, very compassionate, provided a reasonable "package" that included the urn.

All said and done, I had a cremation, memorial service, catering, grave site, and headstone. $8000 out the door.

Can your wife not be buried with you at the national cemetery?

And here in Oklahoma they're in collusion with the state gummint - can only buy a casket from/through a licensed funeral home. Can't make your own. Can't buy one from the (forget who & where) monestery that specializes in making them (and at really affordable prices). Yup, crooks all of them.
