My cousin did all that. Turns out I am related to a Hillbilly from Tennessee and a Sailor from Ireland, both were criminals.

My grandparents did it all. I’ve got all my genealogy in a leather bound book that’s about 300 pages long.

Our ancestors did know him and there is correspondence between them in the National Archives, but he's not our relative.

I was fortunate and have a relative with such an unusual name there's never been another person with it. That's how I trace most of my mom's side.

Also, on the census records, not a lot of people could read and write back then, so you'll get some unusual spellings. I've been doing this for about 7 years now. Fun, but time consuming.

StarSon is an unusual last name.

Makes it easier to know who is a relative

From your posts I thought everyone was your cousin
According to Ancestry DNA over 155,000 are...and that's just the ones that have submitted the test

My line comes from Scotland via Ireland to the US in Pennsylvania. Just can’t find my great great grandpa. I’m pretty sure he and family emigrated from Ireland.

Scots immigrated to Scotland from Ireland in the 500s . English sent some of them back to Northern Ireland in order to dilute the catholic population . Large numbers of "Scots Irish" moved to America during the late 1600s-1800 .

Many Scots from Scotland were forcibly removed to the Americas by their own lairds during the "clearances" (google it) in the early 1800s .

I had a Choctaw friend who would ask people if they had any Indian in them . When they answered "no" he would ask ....
"you want some?" .

My wife is heavy into genealogy and has been using Ancestry.com for years. She is a Daughters of American Republic (DAR) member meaning she has proven her family's lineage back to the American Revolution. According to her, many primary sources of information (birth and death certificates, military records, etc.) can be found on Ancestry.com. We have gone on numerous trips chasing her past relatives.

Census records are pretty good back to about 1840- it will have everyone in a household by names, age, birthplace. The spelling of names may differ across multiple census. Before 1840, it becomes much more difficult most data includes only the head of household name.

The 1700's are very sketchy as families were large and many tended to live in very close proximity to each other. You'll see the same names show up repeatedly and wasn't uncommon for 1st and second cousins to marry and further complicate research.

I am fortunate, the family kept up very well with geneology. We add to ours more than look up more information, I figure back to the early 1600's is good enough.

Please do not be offended. I'm only here for the good time.
