how to check for mental illness, i guess you could be checked while filling out form 4473, they could train the counter help for this simple evaluation, everybody knows the first sign of mental illness is hair on your knuckles and the second sign is,,,

looking for hair on your knuckles

It's absolutely relevant. They were obviously under medical/mental care if they were on prescription drugs.

I absolutely agree that they should have followed up on the tip. I think he already had the guns at the time of the tip. But what kind of tangible evidence would they had to have to remove his guns or prevent him from buying more.

Personally, I am very suspicious of mental screenings, etc. I undertake a self-imposed three-day waiting period and conduct a self-mental evaluation before I eat at Burger and Fries in Sulphur Springs. So far, neither have worked at all.

I don't know because I don't have a mental illness. I would say this though from my professional encounters, most of the time they stop taking their medication or run out of it and don't get it refilled.
