I'd have to put another vote towards Lews. I'm slowly switching all of my reels over to Lews. I just don't buy a ton of reels at a time so its a slow transition.

I just got a Revo STX and absolutely love it...it's a little more than the SX but I found it online for about $130 (after tax and shipping) and it was well worth it.

I'm a Curado fan but found the Abu Revo SX on Amazon today for $87 shipped including tax.

He is buying it with a gift card from Cabelas, so a LOT of reels mentioned are not carried by Cabelas, so you are barking up the wrong tree telling him to get them. There is a Lews reel that is on sale for $97.88.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/LEWS-LASER-PRO-BC-REEL/1794273.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FCQ_page%3D0%26CQ_search%3Dbaitcast%252breels%26CQ_st%3Db%26categoryId%3D734095080

In 7.1:1 gear ratio which would fit the applications you are looking for, I think. Hopefully, some of this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

The left side of the BB1 has a flat adjustment disc that you have to press and rotate to make your adjustments and sometimes it can be a little difficult to turn. The BB1 Pro has the regular type adjustment knob which is easier to adjust. Both are very smooth reels. I have two of the BB1's in the 5-1 gear ratio and they will cast a deep diver crank bait a long way. I use the BB1 pro for lighter lures because it is easier to adjust if I need to. Also when I bought the BB1's the Pro's were not out yet.

Man says he wants a reel around $100 and most of the responses are reels over 100...

Get the cabelas Arachnid. It's a Daiwa Tatula Type R and would be perfect for what you're wanting.

I've been a Shimano man all my life - I just bought one of the Okuma Citrix A - because of a guide on Lake Fork told me about them, all I can say is these are really nice reels. So smooth and precise. The Lake Fork Tackle reel repair guy said these are so easy to clean and maintain. It's $119 so if you catch it on sale you can get em for $100

Cant go wrong with the Lews, especially for the money.
