Have any of you ever checked to see when the $$$ is actually pulled from your account and when it is deposited into the ex's account? For the last 2 years I have noticed that there is a small time frame (a day sometimes 2) where the $$$ is in "limbo". Smells fishy to me!!

It can be longer than that. I'm sure the interest the state collects is intentional.

I did a little math. There are 1 million people who "supposed" to pay child support in Texas. Lets say 1/2 of them do at an average of $500 each. That is 250 Million a month or 3 billion a year!! At a measly 1% rate, that's almost 30 million a year, or around 80K per day. This on top of the 3 dollar fee per month ($36 annually) they added a few years for "administrative fees". Seems crooked, but what else is new.

I think your math is a little off considering your talking about a days float and I'm not sure you are gonna get 1 percent on sweep account

Yeah, I know its not perfect, but I was a little conservative on the amount paid per month, at least by what I pay. I dont know anyone who pays that little of an amount. Even at 1/2% and, half paying, and $500, that is still a buttload of interest someone is making off money that is not theirs.

Well, it does take some amount of time for electronic funds transfers to settle. When I withdraw money from my Paypal account, it takes 2-3 days for the funds to show up in my checking account. Likewise when I pay bills electronically - the funds will be withdrawn from my account, and it takes 1-3 days for the recipient to get them.

Not sure that there's some sinister motive in this. Now if it was taking a week or more for child support funds to post, I'd agree that something was wrong.

For 16 years (3 weeks left!!) mine has been taken out of my pay check. I'm guessing self employed folks have it drafted out of their account?

Don't get me wrong Zeek, I am not one to whine, especially about child support. I am also not one of those conspiracy folk who believe that "the man" is out to get me. I was just curious if others had noticed it. When I first started paying, it was same day!! I actually write a check. I am not privy to the exact process, but if the money is pulled from my account because someone physically deposits it, I believe it should be deposited into the account it was meant for immediately, especially if that is the entire reason for the organizations existence, not two days later.

My point is that you aren't calculating interest on 30 day cycles, in this case it's overnight deal, a day or two. Divide your monthly calculation by 30.

River,

I feel ya brother. I am a lowly school teacher. When I divorced, I was coaching, hence my salary was 15-20% higher. I no longer coach and through the years, thought about trying to get it reduced, but from the nightmare stories I hear, it's not even worth trying, so I still pay based on my coaching salary in 09. 8 years later, I am finally at the point where my salary now matches my salary then.

Reason #2453 on why not to get a divorce with kids involved.
