TFF-

I am looking for some feedback from you guys that are running, or have ran this boat. How does it handle? Are there any things I need to know at high speeds? Any general information would be great as I have agreed to purchase one when I return from a business trip. It is pushed by a 250 SHO.

Thanks in advance,

JJ

Congrats on your new boat! That's the exact model boat and engine I'm running this year. Picked it up from Fun N' Sun about a month ago. It's the best fishing boat I've been in. As far as the running goes, I hope you ordered it with a hydraulic jack plate. The boat really shines when you're able to adjust the motor height from take-off to top end and in varying wind conditions. Take it easy out of the gate and learn to drive it and then you really won't have to drive it at high speeds. It'll come natural. Mine loaded down for a tourney, pretty full tank, livewells with water and two guys is running around 74 and is not chining at that speed. It did take me some getting used to where I needed to have the motor set (first time with a hydraulic JP), but the folks at Fun N' Sun were very helpful in that regard.

I got a new 920 last year. Alex pretty much nailed it. I can't get mine to 74 though. I don't have a hydraulic jackplate though and probably not as much real estate on the lakes I fish. I got mine to 71 on Mcgee Creek. I know the boat will do more.

Hydraulic makes a big difference in performance. I'm curious what I'm going to get running solo, but I'm not sure I will see that number with water temps already in the 60s.

I've got one with a 250 Pro on it. I'll never own another boat besides a Phoenix unless I get paid to...and I don't see that happening. LOL

Full load, fuel, livewells, co angler runs 74-77 depending on conditions. Atlas plate on mine. I've heard the SHO combos have an awesome holeshot...

You can't beat the layout on these boats either, not to mention everything is stainless. The seats sit low in the hull, the list goes on and on...

What kind of steering response do you get at that speed? When I jack up for speed to hit 70+ on my FX-21, I have to pull the trim in to get anything beyond a straight run.

Mind you, I am a big guy, and that Skeeter is a heavier boat, I wouldn't expect the same speed as you!

I can't say enough about Phoenix boats and that's coming out of a ranger. Fit and finish and the attention to details they have put in the boats is outstanding. It is a high performance hull and will haul backside and stay dry. I do agree with having the jack plate. Set it about 3 1/4" up to start. We had it all the way down and would chine like crazy about 70 but once adjusted properly it will fly like a dream. They have giant livewells with well laid out storage. My only complaint would be that the cooler is a little small. Pretty good if that's the only complaint. The ride is definatly smoother then the ranger. ( I love rangers) You will love it!

You Phoenix owners need to keep an eye on the livewell fittings on the bottom part of the transom especially fishing a stump or rocky lake.. I'm repairing a 2010 920 that almost sunk because one of the fittings broke. They are chromed plastic and very brittle. Alot of the stuff that looks like stainless is really chromed plastic or chromed puiter. Other than that it looks like a great boat.

David, next time we're out at Fork at the same time, hop in and let's run the Phoenix.

I maintain decent steering control at WOT, but anything beyond a slight turn and I pull the trim back. I'm pretty cautious, though. A fellow that I fished against in KY was thrown out of his boat (not a Phoenix) when he took a turn too fast, propeller gave him a life-threatening cut on the upper leg and he was fortunate to survive. That'll leave an imprint on your memory!

I had a pretty good opportunity to test it out in sharper turns running the rivers at Table Rock. It's wind dependent, but I maintained 65+ in most turns in the river bends.
