I had a day off on Thursday and decided to scout Lake Naconiche. It was a nice drive from Tyler, some of it through fog, and the lake is lovely, albeit small at just less than 700 acres. The air temp was about 72 and the water temp about 75 degrees. the weather said there would be clouds all day but they had mostly cleared by 10am. There's a $5 launch fee plus a dollar for every other person over 13. The ramp is well-kept and there's a state-of-the-art t-dock. I opted to go up the northeast arm of the lake...there's a well-marked boat lane and lots of standing timber, lay-downs and stumps. There was a good moss line in spots, too. I saw a young fella catch a very small bass from under the CR 2435 bridge. I talked to another couple of guys who told me they'd caught a few small ones but I pushed on to the upper limits where the channel flattened out in about 6' of water. I caught one small bass on the fluke and had a couple of soft bites but other than that I saw no activity. I ate my sandwich in the boat, fished for a while longer, then headed back down to the ramp. I saw one other boat headed up the lake and talked to a guy at the ramp, a sheriff's deputy named Tommy from Henderson, who said the fisheries biologist was at the lake last week and said there was little oxygen above the bridge and none above 6-8'. I didn't pick a good spot, but it was a good scouting day. It's further than Athens, but when I need a flipping and pitching day, it's a great little lake. I'd like to fish it with someone who knows his way around there, though. I snapped a few photos and linked to them below. 2016-11-03 Lake Naconiche Scouting Trip

That water looks beautiful. I need to get over there.

Mad Fluker,
I don't know about the closing. I tried to call the number listed for the lake office (936-559-9038) and left a message but never heard back. They have envelopes and a slot in the door for payment...not sure what I would have done if it had been closed (maybe hit Lake Nacogdoches?).

Love that lake!. It's worth the hour drive from Jacksonville to not have to worry about Jet Skis or water skis. I look at it like Caddo Lake, which lilly pad to throw at? Got some big fish in there. Even the small ones fight like river fish.....

Went about exactly a month ago and caught a few on square bills and medium diving crank baits. They were trying to school but were not grouped up real good. most all of them in the channel/ boat lane. I figured with the cooler weather it would turn them on some. Try going up the west arm next time or the shoreline east/north of the dam. Its a fun little lake to fish.

LCole,
Thanks for the tip. My baby sister wants to see the lake so we're headed back tomorrow to see what we can find.
