There's no recipe, if it was that easy you wouldn't be asking Big hooks and cut mullet in the 2nd gut worked for us a few weeks ago on Bolivar Peninsula.

drive down the beach and look for anything that's different. a high spot in the sand at the water, an area with shell instead of sand or a section of the beach with a wash out or low area holding water and fish the 1st or 2nd gut with anything you choose.

My biggest red was caught on a #1 mutu circle hook and half of a shrimp. It came in at 40 inches. I was fishing the wade gut on 91st pier. I was actually targeting whiting and croaker, and lo and behold hooked on to that big honker. If it fought for 5 more minutes it would have straightened the hook enough to get off.

usually those 40"+ fish will give you a really good run. Sometimes to the fact that you wonder if you have enough line on your reel. Once you get it turned keep the pressure on and you sould be fine. Don't back up.
Keep your feet wet until you get the fish in fairly close.
My biggest landed is a 48" 50 lb. It's on my wall. But I have lost bigger.
I actually surfed fished for 25 years mostly in waders with a belt. I knew litterally several thousand surf anglers who all did the same and I know of no one who every drowned wearing them. But you should belt up just in case a wave flips you.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?
