I have to disagree with you on the fish wanting to be below the thermocline! Stripers and most fish will tend to be at or above the thermocline during the summer months. Below the thermocline layer oxygen is very low and stripers and most other fish will not drop below for any length of time! Will you see some fish swimming below the apparent thermocline yes but they will not stay there!! This is very obvious on Texoma in deep water.

Below the thermocline layer oxygen is very low and stripers and most other fish will not drop below for any length of time! Some will stay in cooler water long enough to suffocate. Lake Travis near Austin has stripers. In past hot summers stripers are sometimes found dead due to apparently staying long enough in deep cooler water that they die due to lack of adequate oxygen.

Very True!

Thats why river striper can and do get alot bigger than lake fish. Plenty of oxygenated water at all depths plus an added bonus of current flowing through while they just sit there waiting for a bait to come to them. IMO
Keep em tight!
