Headed to north padre last weekend of July to get away before school starts back up.. I'm from east tx and only fished salt water a hand full of times.. Just want to sit around and drink a cold one and catch a couple fish.. Any recommendations where to go? Bait? Rig set up? Would be a big help thanks in advance

I am planning on trying the Packery Channel Jetty, but I am a rookie too.

The Packery Channel is a good place to kick back and do some fishing. I've caught a pretty wide variety of fish there. My son caught a 38" Red from the Packery last fall.
Surf fishing is usually my thing, but I just got back from there and the surf was chocolate milk and there was so much sargassum on the beach it was piled up and rotting.

Thanks for the info^

There's probably a lot of opinions on this but what's the best of the fish to throw on the grill and blacken it?

If the weed clears up you should be able to catch fish in the surf. Try shrimp (fresher the better) and fishbites as bait. I usually always catch something. Good luck!

I prefer the fish finder rig personally. The double drop rigs will work also.

Was not able to join them but two fishing buddies had a round of fishing this past Friday at Packery Channel. They sent pictures but the photo quality was poor due to low light conditions. Regardless, here is a short slide show of a sampling of the fish they caught! No Bruisers but they still had fun! Today's Slide Show.

My daughter and my niece were also boogie boarding on the beach by the Holiday Inn just down from the jetty. They were having fun until two three foot sharks (they said they had black tips on their fin) swam by them as they were chasing fish. They got out of the water soon after!

I was down there this past weekend, and they weren't crowded at all. We were there around 9 am.
