Ive fished this half stocked half natural pond for a while now and ive always noticed the small 9-10 foot gator and the 12-15 foot gator that usually stay near the edge of the far side pond of the pond and they never usually bother me. That is, because i never usually have a great day like i was last saturday. I usually use some corn and catch some small bass and trout maybe some bluegill because i thoughht it was stocked with small fish, it never applied to me that the gators wouldnt be there had that not been true. ANyway this old lady was leaving and she gave me this bag of frozen shrimp, sure enough in that little pond i reeled in 15-22 inch catfish one by one. A couple of families started watching and they werent the only ones. Gators are smart, he jumped in the water ans swam his big [censored] right under the dock where i was fishing, this family happend to be watching and i advised them to leave the gator alone because they fed him a bluegill that they caught. He was eating my catches so i would have to reel them in fast an pull them up by the line so he wouldnt get it. Well i finished with 14 big catfish, i was throwing the 17 inches back, and i hooked on last huge catfish, i noteced the gator saw him too so i drug him to the edge of the bank where the gator wasnt. well the gator sunk down and i thought he left, i pulled in the big cat and he line snapped at the edge of the shore, i walked casually to pick up the fish. someone said "WATCH OUT" and out of nowhere.....SPLASH!!!! the gator lunges out at me and grabs my leg,he kinda tackled me to the ground, i moved it out of the way and jumped back ( lucky i play basketbal;, im about to go to school and give my coach a big hug for all of that work he put me through) as soon i i pulled my leg out of his mouth...SNAP...i was so scared but stupid me still grabs my fish and runs, he chased me a little but i got away. I did have 14 catfish so i see why he was mad. and this one was really big (for a pond at least) i bet he was chassing that catfish for weeks and for me to just come along and take it. lol. There was a family with some kids there and it was there first time fishing, theyll probably never go again... The father said that i was lucky for being athletic because if that had been some normal guy...yeah. The good part about it is that i was going through this agnostic stage in my life and this kinda secured my belief in god. my aunt told me earlier that week she had a dream that would happen and she woke up and started crying and praying. Well thank god im okay. its not gonna stop me from fishing there, ill just be more careful and stay away from the bank with a fish.

lol i saved that one big ones fillets for a victory dinner. i seasoned him breaded it and everything but when i got home after spending the night at my uncles house, it was all gone along w the other fillets...i bet that gator is happy cus i didnt get to eat him either.

It sounds like the gators need relocating because thier not people shy anymore. If it took a swipe at you it will at some small kid playing at the bank. report it in that people are feeding it also.

Time to kill that gator. He will only grow bigger and more aggressive.

Yeah that's not cool, glad you're okay though. Sounds like its time to make some boots out of that gator

Call that guy on swamp people, Troy "Choot 'em" Landry, maybe he will come out and take care of it. You were lucky, keep the kids and pets far, far away. OMG

Any pics of your leg? If he grabbed it you would be needing some stitches at the very least.. Not trying to be rude but that tale sounds a little tall..

Yes, please. And IF this is true, you need to call your local TPWD Game Warden and advise him of the location. That gator needs to be harvested as a nuisance before there is a more serious episode.

Yes, growing up around gators, if they grab your leg, they don't usually let go, unless you poke them in the eye or something. I would expect a trip to the emergency room or an ambulance called. Never heard of a gator tackling someone to the ground. Story is suspect. Gators don't operate thataway.

I grew up on a Bayou - never heard of a gator letting go once he had you.

and there is no such thing as a small 9-10 foot gator. That's a good sized gator, definately not small....

This is what a 22 rifle is for. I would kill both gators and tell no one.

my leg, well my foot was in his mouth, i was just fast enough to remove it before he chomped down. i was wearing some thick and heavy air jordans with some long black socks so if he scratched or puntured anything it was them.
also it was at the tpwd center next to sheldon lake reservoir. theres 2 wld gators over there and they dont remove them because the pond is natural and its their habitat
