Too many unanswered questions to give you an answer. What do you want to do with it? How much do you want to spend? Fishing from a boat? Off the bank? The list goes on and on. Examples, do you want to shoot docks, vertical jig, spider rig, jig and bobber to name a few.

Pro Angler tackle. Ed can fix you up with a crappie rod. Then get some Bonehead mono and put it on a Pflueger President ultra lite reel. Don't forget to get some Jigs. There are several guys on here that make way better baits than you can get at the big stores.

I would rather die finding out there was no God than die finding out there is.

Your question is hard to answer because we need to know what kind of fishing you do. For a standard setup I like a 7ft light or medium light spinning rod with a 1000 series Shimano spinning reel. Spool it with 6 lb test line you and will have a good setup. Rod length is the only thing that changes depending on the type you fishing you do. For dock shooting, fishing bridge pilings or fishing barges go with a shorter rod. A 8ft or longer would be great for jigging timber and shallow brush during the spawn. Crappie are not tackle busters so a high dollar rig is not needed. A Shimano Sienna spinning reel will cost you $30 and you could pair it it with a Ugly stick for another $30. This would great set up for crappie fishing.

an abu garcial cardinal 100 series reel, or a pinnacle tiny deadbolt reel, on a 6.6 uglystick ultralight, or a berkley cherrywood. you want something very sensitive. with a soft tip. Until u can detect the lightest bites you will miss alot with a stiff rod. 6 pound stren clear blue, or berkley trilene xl, or xt line, or mr. crappie 6 pound hi vis, or viscious 6 pound hi vis line. Find some line you like and stick with it. Too much changing things makes you unfamiliar with what your equiptment can handle and what its limitations are. You can take that abu cardinal 1oo series reel, and that ugly stick, and some 6 pound trilene, and go fishing, and be confident its going to hold up for you, and fish all day.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
