Hey y'all. My name is Blake. I have just recently graduated from A&M and am back home now in New Braunfels full time, starting nursing school in San Antonio in January.
Any free time I get I am bass fishing. After years of no luck I gave up rod and reel fishing on the Guadalupe and switched to fly rod. My success was instant and I still love the fly rod, but now after being home full time, I want the BIG bite. I am used to fishing lake raven in Huntsville or lake Amistad in del rio which are full of heavy fish that can be caught pretty consistently.
I have a 19' stratos that I have been fishing out of the last month at lake Dunlap and I CAN NOT catch a dang fish for the life of me. In about 5 days, 12 hours each day, fishing on dunlap I have maybe caught 8 fish weighing 2.5lb tops. I can't figure these bad boys out.
This is where I am asking a huge favor for you guys that really know the lake . I am a catch and release angler and respect this river/lake tremendously. I plan on it being my home for a long time and want too keep it pristine. I have never understood why people will kill such awesome creatures. I understand keeping some keepers for a fish fry, but why kill the monsters that make these places so special. I have yet to ever keep a fish out of this river.
I am asking of how to fish this lake. Where on the lake is good to fish, what lures are good? I am struggling to locate and catch these fish. Any reply or message with some advice would be awesome as I really would love to catch some fish. Thank you all for your help in advance. I am always willing to talk to my fellow bass lovers
Gig'em and God Bless

I've been using live bait to catch em. Nightcrawler pumped full of air on a carolina rig with tandem hooks yielded me the most fish, but nothing over 3 pounds. Last week I was there for about two hours in my mini catamaran and caught two keepers, got broken off by one (I was using 4lb line), and caught a fat shellcracker. It can be a tough lake dude, I like to use stuff like drop shot roboworms with a 1/8 oz weight, freeline small perch and minnows, various night crawler tactics that noone else uses that yield not only bass but other species, and natural colored road runners.

Super tough lake to catch em on, but when you snag that monster it will be worth it. Believe me, they are there!
