I purchased a brand new one yesterday and decided to take it for a spin tonight. Total disaster! I had to tighten the spool so tight to keep it from back lashing that it took more effort to turn reel than it should. It was very smooth, just harder to turn than the brand new 5600c4 I had with me also tonight I own 8-6500c3's 2-6600c4's 1-5600c4 and 2-5000's. I am very familiar with these reels and can zing them out there with the best of them. All my reels are strung with mono. This one I strung with 12lb Suffix Titanium Plus Copolymer. Clearance isle stuff from Academy. Could the line be my problem? Little bummed out about this.

12# doesn't seem like a good choice for such a high capacity reel. 20 - 30# is much more appropriate. I usually spool my reels then put a 2 oz weight on and I go outside and walk all the line out. I then reel it back in under tension. As far as setting the tension...with a 2 ton 3 oz weight it should slow drop to when released. It should land without backslashing.

Sounds like with you having so many other abus and experienced throwing them that the line must be the problem.

If I am not mistaken C4 has the 6 brake block on it. I would remove it and put on the 2 brake block. It cheap and a lot better. IMO.

And I would try a little bigger line. I got some suffix line from them too. It is casting good for me. I would not go any lower the 15 lbs line.

The other thing is if you have a empty 6500 just spool the line off of the C4 on to the empty 6500 and see if it will cast good. Sorry well. Lol

You could have over spooled the reel as well typically if its over spooled you will have all kinds of problems as well

It is pretty full. That may be the culprit. I will take some off and try again. If not better after that I will change the line.

Switch to 25 to 30 lb. mono and that will probably cure your problem.

Verdict is in. Took off a bunch of line and tried it. A little better, but still back lashing. Swapped to 14lb Suffix mono and all is good. Guess that copolymer line is not for me.

So it still sounds like you are having an issue with your spool tension knob. Take off your spool tension knob and make sure your spool axle clip isn't damaged. If it isn't, pull off the handle plate assembly from the spool frame, and make sure your axle "pops" into the spool tension knob's axle clip. Hope this helps.
