ok so i have been fishing for a long time, i never really cared about what kind of reel i had until recently. im getting the abu garcia revo stx but i dont know what all the different model like shs, hs, etc. mean. if someone could help me out thatd be great!

Gear Ratios. It's all personal preference but I like the 7.1:1.

It depends on what you are going to do with it.

5's (slow) - deep cranbaits or high resistance baits
6's (medium) - most universal
7's, or now 8's since you mentioned the revo (fast) - jigs, worms, Crigs
