I am trying to replace my Old lowrance with an hds 5. I noticed the power source is wired the ignition. Is this what most people do or do the usually run the power cord straight to battery. I am not good with wiring. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Just find a hot wire for the red and black goes to ground. Should be good to go. You can buy 12 volt test light to help you find hot wire for red

Straight to battery with a fuse + side.
