I am planning on wet sanding my boat to see if I can clean up some oxidation. When I was running my hand along the boat I noticed some spots are smooth and some spots feel like I cAn feel the flake texture. Is it possible the gel coat is completely gone in those spots? I'm not sure if there is a way to tell if that's the case or its the oxidation I'm feeling. Anyone have any info for me?

That's correct. Needs some clear. If you atempt to sand your boat....it will start turning silver. All flakes are originally silver. They are dyed the colors of choice. If your boat is silver.... Sand away and clear. Then sand and buff, .

That's what happen to me where some of my gel coat is gone you can feel some of the metal flake & paint so I didn't wet sand per RainyGilrs advice. I ended up buying a Meguiars gel coat restore kit. Compounded it 2 times, polished it 2 times then sealed it with wax 2 times, then waxed it 2 times by hand yea I know it's alot but man it was so worth it. The flake is actually smooth now & has a coat of wax over it. I wanted to let RainyGirl do the paint restore but I just couldn't justify getting it done & a new gel coat done, I like my wife she is nice & really highly tolerable when it comes to the fishing stuff & I don't won't to sleep in my boat. Not saying the price was high but when your wife hands you a certain amount of money & says this is it for the boat it's up to you how you spend it, you try to make it go far.

Freedom isn't free, you don't have to love it or leave it, but respect the price paid for it.

Thanks for the help, I was afraid that was the case. My boat is green so looks like a repair kit is what I will try. Ill do before and after pics.
