As I've mentioned a couple times on the forum I am very fortunate to have the job I have. Very occassionally I work in a cytology lab, which is fun and I dig it but the vast majority of my work now days is as a medical therapist for an 8 year old little boy with a rare neurological disorder.

TODAY I GOT TO TAKE HIM FISHIN'!!!! We went to Morgan's Wonderland in SA where the state has stocked an 8 acre pond with bass, cats, crappie and various sunfish. We managed to catch a decent crappie (that wiggled off before we got him completely landed) and a couple average sunfish. My patient absolutely loved it. It was very therapeutic for him (and many others on the "wharf" with us). Everyone was very kind and pleasnat to visit with. Just when you see people treating each other so poorly on the news or battle your way to work in traffic its nice to hit the reset button once in a while and see the better half of humanity. It was a lot of fun and a great experience.

P.S. - if anyone is looking for a volunteer oportunity we were told they are always taking volunteers to man the wharf at Morgan's. You get to fish all day. The guy there says the biggest fish he's seen come out of there was a 16lb blue cat but he said he got broke off by a 40+ lb'er. Its a cool little spring fed lake.

I got permission from my patient's mother to post pictures so I'm not violating any privacy laws. Thanks for reading and take care!

Hmmmm...I'm having trouble getting the pics to post. Is it because its a protected website? Any ideas to make it work? I followed the image posting directions and double checked but no cigar.

Thanks everyone.

I'm guessing the pictures will not display because they are on a protected website??? I don't know. I have more on my phone if I can just figure out how to upload them now.

PM sent Tun3r.

Have a good day everyone.

Them being on a protected site is probably the reason Cypher. I had the same issue last year.

Great job getting your patient out in the great outdoors. thumb I know I always feel a little better when I get a tug on the line. I hope he is feeling great with spirits lifted! angel2 Praying for him!

What an awesome thing you did and do for the lil guy. I work at Dell Children's hospital here in Austin in the radiology dept as a supervisor. You have to deal and cope not only with the patient's and parent's emotions but what you go thru emotionally yourself as a provider. I know how difficult it is to constantly maintain a positive attitude for sick, hurt, and dying kids. It can be draining. I love knowing every second I make a difference in someone's life. Mad props to you for what you do! If you would like, we put on a big fishing extravaganza every year at the hospital. Celebs come out, fishing pros, it gets lots of attention. They set up and let kids fish out of a pond they set up. They get all kinds of free things, rod, reel etc. I can pm you when it goes down. It's open to sick kids and the community alike.

Wow! Yes definitely let us know. Its odd. My patients family used to live in the Austin area and we absolutely love Dell Children's. Even though they live in SA we always make the trip to Dell and they have never switched providers. I bet we have probably worked with you or your team several times. Dells is the best place ever.

We would love to attend the fishing event. Thanks!
