Going to go check it out this morning. My first question to these people is going to be does it have titles for everything. If it doesn't, I'll probably just walk away. If he offers up a bill of sale, what good does that do? How hard is it to track down and/or re-title something in your name if the title doesn't exist? I saw the numbers on the side, but just curious.

I know parks and wildlife says there are options for doing what your trying to do but I've always been told to stay away if it doesn't have a title and you want to use it with a motor (even trolling) - there are two many options for Jon boats out there to throw money away on one that you may not be able to use...

Heck - I went to Academy and picked up a 8' Bass Buster for $300 on sale

Hey thanks for the info 99. Went and looked at that boat today, it was pretty junked out. Didn't want to stick that kind of money into fixing it up to make it water worthy. Seeing as how it was in such poor shape, I doubt they had titles for any of it. Like you, I would have just walked away even if it was a decent boat with out titles. Seen some good deals on Craigslist so I'll just keep watching those.

Be safe, ya'll, have fun!

If you can read the registration numbers on the boat, TPWD can tell you whose name the boat is titled in if it is titled. IHO it would be hard to have registered a boat without a title from someone.

Even if you have a title in hand you still must have a bill of sale from the owner as well. I was renewing my boat registration at TPWD last week and the guy in front of me in line was denied because he did not have one.
