Hey guys! For our event this month Rick and I thought of something a bit more special. This event isnt going to be only a points style event like our previous ones so far this season, its going to have a different twist. Were doing a 12 hour night time shootout event! Itll be a tournament style instead of a regular fish in. Were basing the event on a big four style, your Big 4 Carp and Buffalo(includes Mirrors, Koi, etc.) count toward your 4 fish total for the tournament. Whoever has the most amount of weight for their 4 fish total at the end of the tournament wins. Along with this, your big 4 fish will count toward your points in WCC standings, not points for every fish like in a regular event, but the points are based off the same thing (Commons, Buffs 1 point/ounce; Koi, Mirrors 2 points/ounce).
Well plan on doing a few more of these style events scattered throughout the season if this one is successful.
The Entry fee for this event will be $15 per person. The rules will be you have to show up between 5:00pm and 6:00pm on Saturday, May 19 at the venue (Meadowmere park, Lake Grapevine, Grapevine TX) to check in with the directors, Rick and myself, to pay your entry fees, get in on any side pots, and sit around and visit for a while. At 6:00pm Anglers will be allowed to go to whichever spot they choose within the boundary to pick their swim, get all set up, etc. No casting baited lines until 7:00 PM sharp, but you can marker float your swim, set everything up, and bait up your swim in the time between 6pm and 7pm.
Right at 7pm Anglers will be allowed to cast their lines and the event begins. Fishing continues all night. Like usual, Rick and I will be there to weigh fish and record weights to figure point totals and place the person on the leader board, which we'll also try to keep updated throughout the whole event here and also on the group facebook page (Wild Carp Club of North Texas)
The event will conclude at 7:00am Sunday, May 20. At that point anglers will have time to pack up and meet back at the place where we met to pay entry fees for announcement of tournament winners and payout of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners along with the pot money for whoever wins the pot for whatever we decide it to be, most likely big fish, and its usually around $5 to get in on.
Payout will be based on entry fees, and 100% of entry fees received will be paid out
1st place- 50% of payout
2nd place- 30% of payout
3rd place- 20% of payout
For all you who don't already know, Grapevine is known as a pretty easy venue that still holds some nice fish. The lake has good numbers of buffalo going into the low 30s and commons up to the mid 20s. The lake also has a few mirrors that show up every once in a while, and even a few koi.
Same rules apply as all WCC events so far. Remember that proper fish care must be practiced, including the use of landing mats, non-knotted fish safe net mesh. Weigh slings and scales will be provided by the directors. Also, all carp and buffalo caught by competitors must be released! We're trying to promote catch and release carp and buffalo fishing, of course, so this will become a rule for all of our events.
Well plan on meeting a little down the road from the park entry booth at the start of the event. Remember that the park has a $5 entry fee and they are giving us special permission to do a night time event there. Here are the coordinates for the where well meet. 32.982802,-97.113647
This will be the left boundary for anglers to set up. 32.984472,-97.116024
This will be the right boundary for anglers to set up. 32.981817,-97.111791
This should be a really fun little tourney, and we can make it even more fun by doing the tackle buy/sell/trade again. I'll be bringing some stuff to sell this time, so the more the better!
This event should be a lot of fun! So...Who's up for it? Let us know if you're going to make the event either here or on the group page.
