Going to be there Oct 21-23, planning to camp gulf side. Will be working a ham radio mostly, but planning to bottom fish surf wading or bank. Is bay side any better? How are the mosquitos, etc?

Any tips would be welcomed!

Where to get live bait?
Best area to beach-camp and fish, yet be not too close to others?

If you see a few guys with antennas, tents and my silver F150 among the 3 or 4 vehicles, stop over and say howdy. Ask for David. Understand if we don't chat long due to our radio efforts. I think we plan to have a canoe and couple of kayaks with us.

Regards!

David

Ordered some tackle off eBay, no good salt water tackle around here. Got steel two-drop leaders, 3 ounce pyramid weights, 2/0 snelled hooks, weighted floats so far. Need to make a float for my fish basket. I read somewhere that you need like 50ft of string on the fish basket in case it attracts sharks.

I will be at Rollover to maybe Friday evening just depends on how I feel after work or early Sat morning afternoon. I will be fishing the bayside for some flounders first and then move to the gulf and try to catch some redfish.

David you can stop by Miss Nancy's bait camp at Gilchrist when you get down there and she will have all the tackle and bait you need. The Big Store has a reasonable selection of tackle and lures also.Stop in at rollover pass For some great fishing and The First Annual Flounder Fest!!Anywhere along the beach From High Island to Crystal Beach is good for camping and surf Fishing. Tight Lines!

If I can get away from the Gulf I have a muley and an elk tag for colorado

Sounds good, Jainoon, looks like we'll have at least 4 in our party.

I'll stop in at Miss Nancy's then maybe the Big Store.

Are mullet and shrimp the preferred live baits?

We'll be on the air as special call sign W5B for Bolivar, by the way, operating HF for the Canada/ United States Islands contest.

I'm hoping to at least eat some trout I catch down there!

Any tips appreciated.
