Minimum 8ft rod or longer better for casting out,a good surfcast spincast or levelwind reel minimum 25lb test as far as brand can`t go wrong with penn or shakespear of course depends on how deep ur pockets are and how much u`ll be using it big factors also.. `I`m assuming u mean tight line bottom fishing???

and they also cost 10x more than you can get a decent rod for. they are the best, from what i hear. but $235 bucks is a little steep for most people.

Not the Best!! Century Kompressor TTR or E1000-$625 Zziplex SST XL-$500 are like the Bentleys of surf fishing rods.
I'd Tack That!!

I own 5 of there rods (broke most of the time) there the best rod I have ever used. Caught everything from kings to black tips. It depends on how much you plan on using it. You get what you pay for. Pro angler has some great rods I think there 50-60$ great all around rod with a AB 7000 fish catching set up.

Lots of the catfishing guys swear by the Pro Angler rods. I just picked up 2 of the 7 1/2 footers this weekend. Haven't used them yet, but just going by looks, it's a lot of rod for the money. They also have the new 10 footers that should work great for the surf for just a little more $$$. Hard to beat --- quality 10 foot rod for under $50. If you are in the Dallas area, there's several independent dealers which will save yu a lot on shipping. They also have a proangler reel that is under $60 that is about like the Garcia 6500. Check it out here: http://www.Proanglertackle.com/CatfishRod.htm http://www.proanglertackle.com/CatfishReel.htmIf you have the time, keep checking Craigslist for the older Swedish-made Garcia 7000. I have picked up 4 for about $60 to $75 each. Don't get the new Chinese 7000 --- poor quality from a lot of reports.
