Ok...so I have an outdoor "bucket list" item...I would like to catch a Texas snook and add that feather to my fishing hat...my question is how far south should I go for the best chance at one and how far north has anyone personally caught or heard a reliable story of a snook being caught in Texas?

I see consistent reports of snook being caught at the Packery Jetties.

I caught a tiny one in my cast net a few years ago while getting bait at the PA jetty. That has been the only snook I have ever seen in the "wild".

I caught one at 6:31am on August 16th. Live shrimp under a popping in the Packery Channel. My one and only and I am still stoked.

I have never caught one either. I have thought about a guided trip to the everglades. Find a channel with a fast current and give it a shot. Good luck.

I have caught a grand total of 5 snook in South Texas and I've seen 6 total in the wild. I caught 1 in Port A off the pier on dead shrimp, 2 in Corpus Bay one on a gold spoon and one on a gulp pogy, and I have caught 2 at Packery Channel on a blue electric rat-l-trap, and the other one that I saw jumped and threw my hook at Packery. Of course all these that I have caught were undersized but they were still fun to catch. I can't recommend anywhere to catch a big Snook but if you fish packery I caught mine on the the surf side of the North Jetty I believe. I can't remember exactly which side is which since i only fish one side.

I have stayed several times at a place called Sand Castle on South Padre Island. They have a lighted fishing pier on the bay. You can catch multiple snook each night. I use a fly rod and a clouser minnow. None of them are over 3 to 4 pounds, but are great fun. Lots of trout and ladyfish (skip jack) also.
The Sand Castle is not a 3 star place, but it is a comfortable and clean. Great for the fisherman, and very reasonably priced for South Padre.

South Bay SPI and Brownsville ship channel docks at NIGHT with live menhaden. Crank that drag down or you won't get em out of the pilings
Some 20# or larger snook to be caught if ya can turn em.
