The long awaited opening of the controversial Wheeler Branch Reservoir is next Thursday, September 1. TPWD has stocked the lake with walleye, large mouthed bass, small mouthed bass, channel catfish and bluegill

An extensive set of rules and fee schedules has been posted on the Water District Web Page.

Reservations for up to 15 boats will be taken at 254-898-2805 7 days in advance.

I hope they are right when they say this is supposed to be the premiere Walleye Lake. They have heavily stocked it,and Somerville County is charging heavily to fish it.

Interested to see if the walleye will spawn in that lake.

Seems like a big enough lake to allow idle only. No gas motor allowed to be operated. Hope that does not spread to other lakes

You don't need gas on a lake that small.

I saw that Yaks and canoes don't count towards the total count on the lake so that will be my route when I decide to go.

That is my understanding for a weekend. When I first visited the lake in July 2010 the fee was $50 for a boat launch plus entry fees for the occupants. The Somervell Water District reduced the fees to the present level in September 2010 as a result of complaints.
