I actually got some hits on the same question about a week ago when I had to drive from Lewisville down to Houston on business. What I got in response is that the lake has a decent catfish population; much greater population of bass.
Oddly enough, most reviews I read gave more of a warning of catching alligators on baited large hooks (the kind you throw out for big blues and yellows).
Never got a chance to hit the water, but it kept me interested....

There are alot of gators around here just didn't no where to go. I fish the trinity alot and have had gators take spinner baits and live perch
