laugh I'm not sure if any of ya'll had ever participated in warrior weekend but it is coming up this wkend and my Dad and I are volunteering and I was just wondering if anybody had a fishing report for me so I can show a soldier a good time. I'm really jacked up about this event and if anybody wants to join in and has a boat there are more soldiers than boats right now as far as I know. laugh

Thanks,
Clint

I did it last year. Great cause but needs a little refinement. It's a little unorganized. First problem is Port O'Connor itself. Not exactly the best facilities for such an event.

I recommend that you launch early (to avoid the mad rush for the limited ramp space), go get your bait, gas, ice, and what not and then get back in plenty of time. Last year there were more boats than soldiers (which is great) but means that a lot of folks forked out a lot of money to help, and a lot of time and didn't get to take a soldier fishing.

They were putting 4 and 5 soldiers to a boat at first and consequently ran out of soldiers.

So get as near the front of the line as you can if you want to take someone fishing.

And watch out while waiting in line. There's lots of amateurs on the water and there will be some 300 boats packed in a small area plus you'll have the standard commercial boat traffic and barges coming through the middle of it. It can get chaotic.

Once you get through that mess just go and have fun. Show 'em a good time. It's definitely a worthwhile event.

Since you wanted a fishing report instead of a whine session from LandPirate, simply get some croaker and go to the cedars, the hump, the little hump, powderhorn shoreline, or dewberry/blackberry shoreline. Get their early, pick you a spot, and hope the 500 other wally's on the bay don't swarm you when you get a bent rod...

Not whining at all. Simply giving the man some warnings of what to watch out for so that he can make the most of his time on the water.

I don't understand what it is with some of you people on this forum and why you feel the need to turn everything into a personal attack when you disagree with something said. Some of you people just flat wear me out.

Trout, I hope my pointers help you out and hope y'all have a heck of time. Kudos to you for helping with a very worthy cause.

Hey thanks to both of ya'll for the advice.. I'm glad that both aspects were covered because I have no idea what to expect. This is my first time and I am very nervous because i think I am just going to get run over. but hopefully not. I'm running a 19ft floundering rig with a 90 on the back that runs in about 4 in. I hope there isn't going to be some idiot that's running a 250 or 300 that will get rushed and run me over.
