If you're in middle school or high school and would like to fish with or against others your age, come on out to the first ever open tournament hosted by the RAY HUBBARD CHAPTER of the Federation of Student Anglers (FSA).
Your $50 tournament entry not only enters you in the tournament, but also gets you a year's membership into FSA (you'll join more than 2000 other student members and almost 100 school clubs/teams statewide); a "goody bag" with a retail value of up to $30; FSA decal; entry into no less than 12 monthly online tournaments; entry into either the TEXAS MIDDLE SCHOOL FISHING CHALLENGE or the TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FISHING SERIES; an "intro to paddling" course; up to 8 MS or HS only tournaments throughout the year; a minimum of 4 chapter and 4 club outings per year; discounts on gear, clothing, guides, resorts and boats through our partnership program; fly fishing and fly tying lessons; boat building, rod building and lure making classes; and expert fishing instruction from professional anglers, School of Fish staff, manufacturers representatives, chapter members and FSA produced videos.
High school members also have the opportunity to earn the right to compete in the largest and most prestigious high school state championship tournament in the US, as well as fishing for up to $100,000.00 in scholarships annually! Fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, carp, hybrids, striper and more (saltwater too!), FSA is the ONLY middle or high school fishing program in the country that allows its members to captain their own watercraft.
WHEN: Saturday, May 21st; Captains meeting at 7:00, launch at 7:30 Weigh-in/Measure-in at 1:30
WHERE: Bass Pro Shops on I-30 in Garland
WHAT: Open tournament for all middle school and high school students. Middle school students may fish from shore or any HUMAN POWERED CRAFT. High school students may fish from shore, any HUMAN POWERED CRAFT OR any small boat (same as human powered craft) with UP TO A 50lb THRUST TROLLING MOTOR.
All students will captain their own boats; no one other than those entered in the tournament may be in the student's boat. Boats are limited to 2 anglers each; any kayak, canoe, jon boat, row boat, bass buggy or other similar craft may be used. Generally, if it can be paddled, peddled, poled or rowed by a single person, it may be used.
AWARDS: A guaranteed minimum of $750 in scholarships and/or prizes awarded to both divisions (middle and high school). As more prizes and donations come in, they will be added to the pot. For anyone interested, there will be a separate $5 BIG BASS pot as well with a single winner. For anyone interested in donating prizes, please use the email below.
FORMAT: Best of 3 bass; biggest other Crappie, Perch, Catfish and White/Sand Bass
SAFETY/MARSHAL BOATS: Anyone with a power boat is welcome to assist as a safety marshal during the tournament. Marshals not only act as safety personnel, but also may assist anglers on the water (provided assistance is offered to ALL students). There are no limits to the number of marshals; the more the merrier. For those interested in helping, there will be a meeting at BPS the night before at 6:30 in the conference room.
CONTACT: Send an email to INFO@FISHINGSTUDENTS.COM for an entry form, or with any questions that you may have and we'll get you fixed up and ready to go (or just post a question here on TFF)!
For those that may not have a boat, the good folks at KAYAK POWER in Dallas have agreed to offer all FSA members a GENEROUS discount on kayak rentals.....let us know if you're interested!
Thanks
