Mike, Great explanation there. I am going to try and use this info this weekend. But for us just learning, what settings are you using to see the thermocline? I have a 798si but I dont think I have ever seen it. Maybe I am not set correctly to see it.

Taxman, this is a thermocline in Sept 2010 using the 798 and the default 2D senditivity setting.

Taxman, this is another thermocline just starting to form in early June 2010 at another lake. Just using the default sensitivity setting for 2D and DI/SI. I was just looking for it and not trying to get a pretty picture of the standing timber.
