I have a transducer mounted so it shoots through my hull. I epoxied it in the bottom of my bilge. I would like to remove it and replace it with a different transducer. Anyone know how to remove it from the epoxy? Do I just pry it out, use some kind of solvent, or chip away the epoxy? Or am I stuck with what I have?
FYI - the transducer is a Hummionbird Dual Beam - want to replace with a Quadra Beam to take advantage of my new 788 CI.
Thanks in advance - I appreciate your help.

You can try to pry it out but you may be stuck with it in that spot. This is why I used marine sealant, a little pressure and I was able to get my old ducer out of there. I highly reccommend staying away from epoxy on your next thru hull.

I was afraid that might be the case. But everything I read said to use epoxy - no mention of marine sealant. I guess I'll keep the current transducer. I will heed your advice on the next one.

In some cases, you can use a chisel and carefully chip away some of the epoxy around the transducer. Then take a small piece of wood, place it next to the transducer and tap it with a hammer. Once the ducer is out, sand and prep that area and you should be good to go. Smart move going to the Quad beam !

I replaced some and you can bump it on the side with a hammer and it will usually pop loose. I learned that from the best, Spanky. I used a 3lb shop hammer and just bumped the last one and it popped right out. It didn't damage anything either.

You can also try grinding around the transducer with a dremel grinder if you want to save the transducer if not take a piece of wood and hammer and pop it out.
I would stay away from silicone based products and anything bsides epoxy. Silicone products absorb sonar signal and reduce the effectiveness of the transducer and has created alot of sonar issues that epoxy does not create. May be simpler and may work for some but it doesn't work in all applications. I use only the recommended epoxy and do not have issues. I've seen alot of consumers and even boat builders subsitute different products that create more issues than they help.

Shoot-through installations simply are not serviceable. Some swear by them; however...why, I just don't know.

My hull is starting to look like a porcupine with all the old ducers that are stuck there. Broken flasher ducer, rat chewed Lowrance ducer, new Lowrance ducer and new flasher ducer. I'm gonna need a bigger boat just for all these transducers, I guess next time I'm gonna have to put them on the hull.
