Trinity is always a good spot. Don't eat anything though. You shouldn't be eating everything you catch anyway!

I know you said river to fish, but it looks like you are right next to grapevine lake. That lake is full of nice blue catfish that can be caught from shore. As for bait, learn how to throw a cast net if you don't already know how, and catch some gizzard shad. They are easy to catch right now, just about any boat ramp will have them. You are looking for the 6 inch or larger shad. Put shad on ice immediately and keep on ice until ready to use. Fillet the shad when ready to bait up. Fish with the bloody fillets and heads of the shad. Bloody is key, if your bait doesn't bleed, you need to go get fresh. Use a large weight (2 oz bank is my usual) and 20-30 lb mono to cast your fresh cut shad out as far as you can. Change bait often and move to another spot if you don't get some action within 30-40 min. I could go on and on, but here are some catfish equipment essentials:
1. Cast Net - 6 or 7 ft mono 3/8"
2. Old cooler filled with ice and zip-locks for bait
3. Med-Heavy rods (pro-angler are local and my favorite)
4. Large bait-cast or spinning reels with 20-30lb test mono and 30-50 lb mono line for leader material
5. 1/0 - 8/0 hooks, match bait size with hook size
6. 2 oz bank sinkers
7. Large swivels and beads
8. 2" cigar float placed 4" above hook (look up santee-cooper rig)
9. rod holders with large aluminum sand spike (academy or bass pro)
10. at least one good friend, a camera for pics and some ice cold drinks!

Get up early and start fishing just before the sun comes up. Most of my quality fish come in the first couple hours of fishing. If you just can't wake up before 6, try night fishing to beat the heat. Good luck and post up some pics!!

You can eat from the Trinity north of Dallas.

I would also like to know where is a good bank spot for cats on Grapevine, I've never had much success there. (Yes, I'm using shad on santee-cooper or Carolina rig.)

People and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

I've caught some decent blues at Rockledge Park. Got a 22 lb from the bank there this spring. I don't fish it often because I'm so so close to Lewisville so I don't know many places to fish. Try going to this webpage and check out the parks that look promising:
Grapevine Parks
Rockledge isn't on this map because it doesn't have a boat ramp.
