Well I'm runnin across the lake @ about 55mph, the motor throttles down and we come to a stop. Motor still running, put my foot on the gas and the motor revs but no movenemt. Ok this is an easy one except the dealer says the metal hub in these props never go out (and the motor lost power). Troll to the bank, pull the prop, the hub is fine. Set prop ans hub back on shaft and put in forward and prop won't turn. Put in nuetral prop spins. Put in reverse and prop won't turn. Start scratching my head. I tighten everything back up, troll from bank, fire up the motor, put in forward to run to the hole, motor revs up boat does not move. So, the motor cranks fine, goes in gear, comes out of gear, no noise. Give a little gas and the prop will not turn, I couldn't even turn the prop with the paddle while in gear. I'm guessing drive shaft. But why can't you turn the prop manually if drive shaft is broke. Remember the part about no noise. The prop shaft looks straight, just got prop worked and it still looks clean and I don't remember feeling anything in the water. It's going to the shop, I just like to know what's up. Maybe.

one of my customers had that happen to him.
he whacked a stump with his prop. gave him all the signs like yours did. driveshaft broke in half.
most likely at one time you MAY have hit something and finally the driveshaft let go????
sorry to hear about that...sux fo sho.

After 15 years & 7 boats with Mercury motors I dumped them for a Yamaha
numerous problems: (1)Deffective Props 2003 (6)Deffective Coils 2007/2008 (1)Water Pump 2006 (1)Thermostat 2005 (2)Oil Pumps 2008/2009
Notice issues eflect the last 4 years or so. May be a sign of quality control / assurance issues.

Well the dealer took a look @ the prop and I had just gotten it reworked (first weekend out), he sayed the prop guy ruined the prop and it was probably vibrating and caused the lower unit to come loose inside. What do you think about that???

Sounds like your dealer is looking for an excuse.

I agree with Mike. If the prop was vibrating enought to ruin a lower unit, I would think you would notice it. Sounds a little fishy to me.

Just got off the phone with the dealer. He says the new lower unit is in, they are installing it as we speak. I should be able to pick the boat up this afternoon. I guess if he would have called me back on Tuesday like he told me I would have known more about what was happening. I give Mercury the check mark, still not sure about the dealer.

What happened in the lower unit?? If you had to have you prop reworked so soon, then you must have hit something which could have started a failure. Just having your prop reworked should not have caused the problem as Opti stated. Hey Steve did you ruin his prop???? LOL
