I need some help, I just recently got me a jon boat and I was wondering if anyone knows of some good spots that would be good for jon boat access. Thanks a lot

Not trying to be a jerk, but what size boat, motor, which part of DFW? Makes a big difference in what kind of water you can safely use it on, and when you consider that some spots are right in the backyard of some people in the D/FW area, while the same spot may be over an hour away for you. D/FW is a BIG area.

Sorry, im in Keller, but dont mind driving a bit. Its just a 10 ft bass tracker with a trolling motor. Got it to get back up in creeks that I cant get to on foot.

As far as boat ramps go, since you mention creeks the Little Elm boat ramp at Lake Lewisville seems good to me. The water is small enough for a jon boat and lots of good fishing around. Another near ramp that gets you to the same water is Navo boat ramp. The only benefit here is that it is a lot less crowded. (closed for winter?). On RayBob, Buck Creek boat ramp is sheltered / small water.

I think there are plenty of boat ramps at all of the major lakes that are relatively sheltered though. I'm just mentioning a few around me.

Can you launch without a true boat ramp and carry the boat at least 50 feet? That would open up a ton of ponds and back creek areas.

One place closer to Keller is Denton Creek. I've seen a guy drag a jon boat in there.

Take it from me, you are going to enjoy that little Jonboat. I have a Skeeter & this (picture) 10' Jonboat. I am having ball fishing for reds at Calaveras lake. As you can see, I have it rigged out with a 3.0 horse motor, depthfinder, 6 rodholders, best of all, practically no maintenance. I already had the trailer.

If you're willing to drive a bit, try Fairfield. It's tough for the bigger boats to get out on that lake and you'll have it to yourself. I've got a 19' Ranger and a much smaller 12' War Eagle jon that I use almost as much. I've taken the jon just about everywhere I've used the bigger boat. I just watch the winds. Anything 10 mph and under and you're good.

One of the most fun trips I've ever taken was when a group of us carried our jons and bass busters to Fork for a weekend on spring weekend. We fished in the back of several coves and had a ball. Small boats take away the "running" and make you fish more diligently on the areas you are in.
Try Little Mustang, Little Caney, Running, etc, there are tons of access points for a small boat and if done in the spring.....No telling what you will catch.

Hey man, I live in Carrollton and there is a good little spot over off George Bush and Sandy Lake. Its the east fork of the Trinty river I think.

Take Sandy Lake west bound off of George Bush Tollway and turn left into a baseball field looking sporting compound,(before the bridge) about a 1/2 mile or so. Take your first right, unmarked road right before the entrance to the sports area, and follow it around underneath Sandy Lake road. There is a little boat ramp where you can put in and its perfect for little Jon boats (as long as its not been raining a lot!). There is also a couple of big ponds back by the baseball diamonds that you can carry your boat into.

Another good thing about this spot is that there is a live bait shop just across the bridge on Sandy Lake road, on the west side of the river. You have to make a u-turn after going over the bridge and then its a little turn in right before you go back over the bridge. A little confusing but it will make sense when you see it. There is a little bait sign on the wall right by the turn in.

Good luck!

Just a head's up, you will be going upstream from Sandy Lake since there is a low water dam. It is obvious once you are there, but thought I'd mention just in case to plan to go downstream.

I actually took it to Marine Creek Lake Sunday morning, caught 1 bass within the first 20 minutes, but nothing else the next 2 hours, then it started to get real windy so I left.
