SkeeterRonnie, How did you do on the crapie at Cypress this past weekend? It was very tough for me on Tuesday.

This would be my first tournament I'm thinking of fishing.. Can someone give me the run down on how it works weighing in fish every hour... Do you just fish the day and when you get a decent large one take in that hour and weigh it ... What's a size that's worth stopping the fishing to run over to weigh in for crappie? I'm thinking 1.75-2 lb, not certain??? What would I need to buy for tournament? I'm assuming a weigh in bag and maybe some type of markers or something to tag fish to disguingish between who's fish is who's when fishing??? Any help from anyone that has fished past tournmanents like this is greatly appreciated ....

I would say at least a 1lb to go to weigh in. Their paying at least 3 places every hour. Who know's a one pounder may get 1st in an hourly pay back. I have never fished hourly for crappie but I have BASS you be surprised what takes home a check when you can only weigh in 1 fish an hour. If you think it's big enough try it.

1.5 lbs or above I would head over there... really need to prefish to get a feel for what the "bigger" size is. Then it depends on the conditions, and the bite.... sometimes them boogers just lockjaw... keep your fish seperate with a cull tag, and remember they have to be alive.... I would suggest some livewell additive- since you wont be eating them. It will flush out of them very quickly once released.

This is a blast of a tournament. Wally does a great job with it. Lots of entertainment, and lot's of good fish caught! Might try and make it myself!

The brochure only says the crappie weighed in will be released alive back into the lake. Does that mean any others caught and not weighed in can be released into some hot grease?

Well, you lose one, you rig one.

I won the hourly pay for 10am, $400... It was my first tournament and ended up with the largest crappie of the day, 2.17 lber and my personal best, trolling around the 66 bridge!!! Thought I had a shot at the boat, but it turned out to be a random drawing to all people who entered tournament. Wish it had been the biggest fish of the day rewarded... Maybe next time. Good day all in all and fun crowd out there. The Grand Prairie Bass Pro Shops is a very nice hangout.
